Welcome to the band page!
This is where we feature Tim Harwill's musical
partners-in-crime and band-mates in the True Country String Trio. We hope you'll
enjoy getting to know the boys in the band a little better and we thank you once again
for your continued support.
Pat Golden

True Country String Trio bass player Pat
Golden was born and raised in the small fishing community of Southshore, Nova
Scotia, on the east coast of Canada. Pat was bitten by the music bug at the ripe
old age of sixteen years thanks to an invitation to put together a band from
close friend and soon-to-be rhythm section partner, drummer Todd Roy. His
musical journey would consist mainly of bar room rock 'n' roll and a short stint
with a country cover band, and after spending several fruitless years scuffling
at venues as far west as southern Ontario, the ex-seaman and young bass-man
would be surprised to find himself in dire need of a change of scenery.
An extended hiatus that would include relocation west to small town Alberta
would constitute his next steps, and he would spend significant time
contemplating what future he may have in music. The love of performing and the
excitement of being on stage continued to inspire the musical passions of the
self-taught bass-man however, and a chance meeting with the singer/songwriter
Tim Harwill would serve as a catalyst, crystallizing the desire to rediscover
his musical roots.
Rejuvenated, refreshed, and reinvigorated, the former metal head is back and
rockin' it out harder than ever with the True Country String Trio, in addition
to maintaining an interest in a rock n’ roll side project. His uniquely east
coast style is an essential component of the country rock sound of the lyrically
driven power trio, and this founding member of the band looks forward to a long
and successful musical future.

Marshall Lawrence

True Country String Trio lead guitar
player Marshall Lawrence was born in the mid 20th century, north of the 54th
parallel in Canada, in a cabin in the woods. While Marshall followed the path of
many other aspiring rock 'n' roll guitarists, buying albums by Chuck Berry,
Johnny Winter, and many of the 70's lineup of all-star power guitarists, he
would eventually ‘come home to the blues’ by way of the music of B.B. King.
Performing as a professional for the first time with a 1969 gig at Windsor,
Ontario, in a band called The Peanut Gallery, he would spend much of the next
two decades exploring and exploiting rock guitar styles while employed at a
local auto factory. Maintaining his chops by working weekend club dates in a
number of local bands, the early 1990’s would see Marshall relocate to Kingston,
Ontario, in pursuit of a Ph.D. in psychology. Feeling that he had matured enough
to respect the genre, Marshall was playing the blues with the Marshall Lawrence
Blues Band before professional commitments would take him to northern California
for an extended period in the early years of the decade, ultimately leading to
the break up of this early version of his band. Landing on his feet in
California, he would soon find success with local bluegrass band The Tubtones,
and after having to first purchase a mandolin and learn to play it in order to
earn his place with the new band, he continues to enjoy the unique demands of
bluegrass music to this day. Musical transitions like these have allowed
Marshall to develop a rare feel for rhythm that contributes greatly to the sound
he has today, and upon returning to Canada at the end of the century he would
head north to Edmonton, Alberta, a city known for an active and talented blues
community.
Entering the 21st century, Marshall has firmly established himself as a force on
the Canadian blues scene, releasing a pair of albums – 2003’s ‘Where’s The
Party?’ & 2008’s ‘The Morning After’ - to wide critical acclaim. Now enjoying the
rewards of a lifetime spent honing his talent, the blues guitar master splits
his time between a burgeoning solo career, a bluegrass project, and the
True Country String Trio. His powerful electric tones define the soul of the
blue country and rock sound of the lyrically driven power trio, and this
founding member of the band is looking forward to another century of the blues.
